I’ve written these over the past few years. I’ve titled the group “A Study of Short Poems” because each one is slightly different from the one preceding it, and is meant to showcase different forms of short poems as well as different uses of forms. Take note of the rhyme schemes, the patterns, the alliterations, and in some the overall unity of the poem.

1. M ight I have your hearing

U nilaterally feeling

S uch an overwhelming thing

I cannot help but sing

C aught in act, I’m King.

2. H ere and now Despair

O ft and soon repair

P oint the rum and Dare

E xpect the world, Care.

3. I shoot up a flare

To Silence

Hatred, Bitterness

Indwelling

But now Hope.

To Listen, to Care

To Silence

I shoot up a flare.

4. In this icy room

Seen out the window

A Summer’s heat bloom

But I am Freezing.

5. Childlike, I smiled Bright

So very light

Everyone could Feel

So Warm and Right.

Manlike, I smiled Dim

So very trim

Everyone could Feel

So Cold and Slim

6. Nude with layers of worth

Cold, skin

Wrapped in layers of cloth

Warm, sweaty

Clothed by layers of earth

Dead, still.

7. Piano before

Hands Adore

Song, lore

Heart’s shore

8. Running shoes a worthy deed

Bones upon the ground

Moving fast, increasing speed

Destination found

9. Tree

Tall, strong

Rotting

Dead.

Seed

Small, weak

Growing

Life.

Love

Real, same

Striving

Beauty.

10. Dark drive

Caressing curves, controlled.

Dark depth

Stealing stares, stilfing.

Dark dive

Falling fares, feeble.

a Spore

Face to face with mine own insufficiency I grasp with mine own impossibility. To ever know an unburdened core Yet for freedom it would be a spore. I am not strong enough to overpower myself. The clenching throb of spinal lacing Unpredictable body aching I simply ask for a respite, for a ban. Embracing, Facing these spots- I am a Man.
