I’ve written these over the past few years. I’ve titled the
group “A Study of Short Poems” because each one is slightly different from the
one preceding it, and is meant to showcase different forms of short poems as
well as different uses of forms. Take note of the rhyme schemes, the patterns, the alliterations, and in some the overall unity of the poem.
1. M ight I have your hearing
U nilaterally feeling
S uch an overwhelming thing
I cannot help but sing
C aught in act, I’m King.
2. H ere and now Despair
O ft and soon repair
P oint the rum and Dare
E xpect the world, Care.
3. I shoot up a flare
To Silence
Hatred, Bitterness
Indwelling
But now Hope.
To Listen, to Care
To Silence
I shoot up a flare.
4. In this icy room
Seen out the window
A Summer’s heat bloom
But I am Freezing.
5. Childlike, I smiled Bright
So very light
Everyone could Feel
So Warm and Right.
Manlike, I smiled Dim
So very trim
Everyone could Feel
So Cold and Slim
6. Nude with layers of worth
Cold, skin
Wrapped in layers of cloth
Warm, sweaty
Clothed by layers of earth
Dead, still.
7. Piano before
Hands Adore
Song, lore
Heart’s shore
8. Running shoes a worthy deed
Bones upon the ground
Moving fast, increasing speed
Destination found
9. Tree
Tall, strong
Rotting
Dead.
Seed
Small, weak
Growing
Life.
Love
Real, same
Striving
Beauty.
10. Dark drive
Caressing curves, controlled.
Dark depth
Stealing stares, stilfing.
Dark dive
Falling fares, feeble.
